The Australian Shearer is slowly becoming a dying breed. Limited younger people are choosing to enter the industry and science technology is innovating new methods of harvesting the wool of the sheep’s back. I spent a couple of days with a team in a large shed that had seen over 100 years of shearing. The temperature inside was over 40 degrees Celsius and at about $2 a sheep the boys certainly have to work hard for their keep. It looks like some of them certainly play as hard as they work as well. |
